Q

How does Delta Dental coverage work?

Delta Dental is the largest dental insurer in the US and operates two main networks. Delta Dental PPO offers the deepest discounts and lowest out-of-pocket costs, while Delta Dental Premier has a larger network but smaller discounts; you save most by seeing a dentist who participates in both. Coverage typically follows the standard 100/80/50 structure — 100% of preventive care (cleanings, exams, X-rays), about 80% of basic care (fillings, simple extractions), and roughly 50% of major care (crowns, root canals, dentures) — after a small deductible and subject to an annual maximum, often $1,000–$2,000. Many plans include a waiting period for major work and may exclude or limit implants and adult orthodontics. To use Delta Dental in New York, log in to find in-network dentists, confirm your specific plan's benefits and maximum, and request a pre-treatment estimate before any large procedure so you know your share in advance.

PPO vs Premier networks

  • Delta Dental PPO: smaller network, biggest discounts, lowest cost to you.
  • Delta Dental Premier: larger network, smaller discounts.

A dentist in both networks gives you maximum savings. Always check which network your dentist participates in.

What's covered

Most Delta plans use the 100/80/50 split with a deductible and annual maximum. Preventive care is usually free; basic and major care cost you a share. Read how this works in our insurance guide.

The limits to watch

  • Annual maximum ($1,000–$2,000) — see our guide.
  • Waiting periods for major work.
  • Implant and ortho exclusions or caps.
